Dear Hyman Fine Elementary Families,

On behalf of the PTO I would like to welcome back our returning Hyman Fine families and to extend a special welcome to our new families. Hyman Fine Elementary School is an outstanding learning facility made so by the dedicated faculty and staff. I am certain that the 2010-2011 school year will be outstanding!

The Hyman Fine Elementary School PTO's mission is to promote an environment at school where teachers and administrators can do their best work and our students do their best learning. Our mission statement, Together we are a strong voice for our FINE children, says it all.  It is our goal is to enhance and maximize the education of every child while aiding them in achieving their highest potential.

On September 2nd, you will automatically become a member of the Hyman Fine PTO.  In fact, all parents or guardians of children attending Hyman Fine, as well as each member of the professional staff, are members of the Parent Teacher Organization and are encouraged to participate in its activities.  Meetings are typically held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. I would like to cordially invite you to our 1st PTO Meeting of the school year on Wednesday, September 15th at 6:30 pm in the Hyman Fine Library.  Come and learn about the exciting events planned for the 2010/2011 school year.

During the 2009/2010 school year, funds that were raised by the PTO were used towards the purchase of new computers for all grades,  Accelerated Reader Program and Planet Turtle. Funds were also used for enrichment programs, field trips and support of the Second Steps Program. As we look forward to this year’s fundraising efforts, the PTO will continue to support the Accelerated Reader Program and Planet Turtle.  We would also like to purchase Smart Boards for as many class rooms as possible this year.

To meet our financial  goals, the organization actively fundraises through various ongoing and event specific programs and activities.  Fundraising programs include the Square 1 Art, Holiday Pie Sale, Scholastic Book Fairs, and Box Tops for Education. But as you can imagine, in order to meet our financial goals, we need ACTIVE participation.  Active participation doesn't mean a huge time commitment.  PTO has a need for all parents and their talents. We have tasks that can be performed in the evenings, during the day, or in your home.

We are continuing our Yahoo! Group.  The Yahoo Group is designed to provide the Hyman Fine PTO with an electronic vehicle so that members may communicate about school related events and activities, volunteer for upcoming events, and receive up to date news regarding the PTO.  Our hope is to keep you in the loop on PTO news and have an opportunity to hear from you.  For families with no access to computers, we will still continue to reach out to you through mailings that are sent home with your children.

If you are interested in joining, please send an email to hfespto@yahoo.com  .  When we receive your request to join the group, you will receive an email message back from us.  We will not disseminate or circulate the email addresses of the people who join our Yahoo Group.

The sky is the limit when it comes to PTO’s opportunity to enrich your child’s education.  The Hyman Fine PTO Executive Board welcomes your input. We encourage you to attend monthly meetings and become an active participant in your child’s education. On behalf of the Hyman Fine PTO Executive Board, I wish you well as we start the school year.  I look forward to seeing you at our wonderful events.

Sincerely,
Lynn Porto
