Welcome Back Letter from the PTO

Dropping off in the morning by car:
People dropping off students by car will proceed past the front of the building to the small lower circular drop off adjacent to the side field.  Students can be let out at the walkway that leads to the front of the building and staff will be waiting there to assist.  There are places to park if you want to walk you child to the door.  Otherwise, if you are in line, please do not stop and leave your vehicle.

Please do not pass another car in the line.  Two to three cars can let off students simultaneously and that should make for a quick and easy drop off.
As you are coming down the driveway, please do not by-pass a bus or van in the line on the driveway. When they make their left hand turn to circle the front of the building, it will be OK to pass them and continue to the lower circle.

Please note that Handy Street access road is blocked to traffic and you cannot enter or exit this road.  Students often walk it and an accident could easily occur as students are not expecting traffic on the closed easement.

Late drop off by car:
If you are dropping off your child after the start of school (8:40 a.m.) you must park your car in the parking lot and come through the front door to sign in your child.

Picking up your child by car:
If you are picking your child up at dismissal time, you must park your car on the road
leading to and facing out towards Oak Hill Avenue (on the right hand side of the
driveway). Your child will be dismissed through the side gym door. Kindergarten
students will only be released if met by an authorized adult. Once you have escorted
your child back to your car you may continue down the driveway to Oak Hill Avenue.

Early release/pick up:
If you are picking up your child early for a doctor’s appointment please notify the
classroom teacher in the morning by note and park your car in the parking lot and come
through the front door to sign out your child.

Pick up of a bus route student:
If your student normally takes the bus but will need to be picked up on a certain day,
then a note must be sent into the classroom teacher in the morning. Students will be
released through the side door with the walkers.

Lunch Menu
Whitson Food Service offers six lunch options daily.  On the left side of the menu are four choices that will be available every day:  Cheese sandwich, yogurt, bagel and cream cheese, and garden salad.  In addition there will be two hot entrees listed on the calendar portion.  It’s important to go through the menu with your child to help them make well balanced choices for the month.

Second Step Program - Sun Chronicle Article

The award-winning Second Step program integrates academics with social and emotional learning.   The students learn and practice vital social skills such as empathy, emotional management, problem-solving and cooperation.   These essential life skills help students in the classroom, on the playground, and at home. Our ‘buzzwords’ at Hyman Fine are RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and HONESTY.   Our mascot is the Golden Goose who reminds us to “live by the Golden Rule.”  To help facilitate this program, a committee has been formed that will host weekly assemblies with the students.
