As you may be aware, a disturbing nationwide trend has made its way to Massachusetts. While the Attleboro Public Schools community has not received any reports of these messages yet, they have been reported in several states, including Alabama, California, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. In these states, students of color have received texts that have some variation of a message that they have been “selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation.” This is an abhorrent trend that does not reflect our values as a school community or a people. Racism in any form has no place in our schools, our community, or our society, and we will stand firm in our efforts to eradicate it. Massachusetts State Police have been notified of the instances that occurred in Massachusetts, and police in other communities are working with the Commonwealth Fusion Center to investigate the matter and share resources. Please contact your local police should you have received a message as described above. Thank you for your continued support.

Just a reminder that we will be hosting a District Strategic Plan Focus Group meeting this evening at 6pm in our Library. See more details below- Join us to help develop our next five-year Strategic Plan and shape the future of Attleboro Public Schools by working with fellow community members, educators, and administrators. Together, we will discuss goals and strategic outcomes to guide the district forward in the 21st century. We have scheduled five focus group sessions to review the status of the current Strategic Plan, Navigating Toward 2025, and to discuss future goals. All members of the Attleboro Community are welcome to attend any of the sessions. Please remember that Friday, October 11 is a half day of school. Students will be dismissed at 12:25. There will be no lunch served. Also remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 14. It is a holiday in observance of Columbus Day.

Please remember that Welcome Back Night will be taking place on Thursday, September 26th from 5:30-7:30 here at Hyman Fine. This open house event will allow all of our students the opportunity to guide their families around the building. We invite you to stop into your child's classroom to meet their teacher, explore their learning space, as well as other areas throughout the building that are a part of your child' learning experiences. We will also have information tables around the building with community resources and building supports, so be sure to check in if you are in need of any assistance. Please remember that an adult must accompany children at all times. Students should not be visiting areas independently and without the supervision of their guardian. We hope to see you here this Thursday! Additionally, the PTO will be collecting donations for the upcoming Trunk or Treat event. Items include candy and non-candy items as well as monetary donations to use to help fund the event. Please include teacher name and grade on the donation as prizes will be awarded for most donations. Please see the flyer for more details.

You can find the Book Fair Schedule in this week's news. Please remember that students are welcome to shop with cash or by eWallet.
